About Drill Presses

New Lanka Tools stocks 6 drill presses, bench drills and drilling accessories. A drill press holds the bit perpendicular to the work and feeds it under controlled pressure, which is the only reliable way to produce a truly square, accurately placed hole. DBL is represented in the range alongside other bench drill models, and the category also includes drill stands and machine vices — a rotatable drill stand and press vices in 2½, 3 and 4 inch sizes. Metal fabrication and machine shops, joinery workshops, agricultural and plantation workshops, maintenance departments, and model makers all use drill presses. Anyone who has tried to drill a straight hole through thick steel with a hand drill understands why the fixed machine exists. Applications include drilling accurate perpendicular holes in steel and timber, repeat drilling at consistent depth using the depth stop, drilling series of holes to a marked layout, counterboring and countersinking, light spot-facing and reaming, and — with a sanding drum fitted — small shaping tasks. Clamp the work. This is the single most important habit with a drill press: a workpiece that catches on the bit spins with real force, and a machine vice bolted to the table removes the risk entirely. That is why press vices are stocked alongside the machines here. Match speed to material and bit size. Steel and large diameters need slow speeds with cutting fluid; timber and small bits tolerate higher speeds. Running too fast in steel simply burns the cutting edge off the bit within seconds. A drill stand is the budget route to much of this benefit — it converts an ordinary electric drill into a reasonably accurate press, and suits a workshop that drills occasionally rather than daily. Drill bits and chucks are stocked in Hand Tools & Accessories and Spare Parts. Visit No: 120, Princess Gate, Colombo 12, or WhatsApp +94 77 111 8880.
