Many builders also keep one on site simply because it cuts block and paving cleanly where an angle grinder is clumsier. Applications include cutting ceramic and porcelain floor and wall tile, cutting marble and granite for worktops and thresholds, cutting cement board and fibre cement sheet, trimming block, brick and paving, and cutting neat straight lines in screed or render. Dust is the main practical issue. Dry-cutting stone and tile produces fine silica dust, which is a genuine long-term health hazard rather than merely a nuisance. Cut outdoors or in ventilated space wherever possible, use a suitable dust mask and eye protection from our Safety Equipment department, and where the machine and the job allow, wet cutting produces a cleaner cut and dramatically less dust. Blade choice follows the material. A continuous rim diamond blade gives the cleanest edge on ceramic and porcelain and is the right choice for visible tile edges. A segmented blade cuts faster in concrete, block and stone but chips tile. Always check the blade's maximum RPM against the machine's speed before fitting.
