About Impact Drills
New Lanka Tools stocks 26 impact drills and hammer drills, the second largest power tool category in our catalogue. An impact drill adds a rapid hammering action to ordinary rotation, which is what lets it drill masonry, brick and concrete that a plain drill cannot touch. Bosch dominates this category with 13 machines — half the range — followed by Dewalt with 5, Dong Cheng with 4 and GrLINK. Percussion hammers are included here too, along with corded and cordless models. Electricians drilling for conduit and back boxes, plumbers running pipe through walls, air conditioning installers, sign and fixture fitters, carpenters, and general contractors all use impact drills constantly. For most trades working in a masonry-built environment, this is the drill that lives in the van. Applications include drilling masonry, brick and block for wall plugs and anchors, drilling concrete for light fixings, drilling timber and steel with the hammer action switched off, and driving screws where the machine has a clutch. The hammer function can be disengaged on most models, which is what makes an impact drill a reasonable single-drill purchase for someone who cannot justify two machines. Know the difference before buying. An impact drill hammers with a mechanical clutch and suits masonry up to modest hole sizes. For repeated drilling in hard concrete, or for holes above roughly 16mm, a rotary hammer with an SDS chuck does the work far faster and with less strain on both the tool and the operator — see our Rotary Hammers category. And for driving fasteners rather than drilling, an impact driver is the right tool, not an impact drill. Masonry bits and chisels are stocked in our Hand Tools & Accessories department. Everything is genuine stock supplied through proper channels, with warranty support and a repair centre for selected brands.
